About Us

The Doctor started building cabinets in 1994 when I couldn’t afford a set of subwoofers for my PA. I built them with a pair of 15” speakers I had acquired along the way. I called a friend who owned a speaker/amplifier repair shop in my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio and he gave me the cabinet size and porting specs. I eventually sold them and built another set of 18’s. In 2000 I had a Mesa Boogie Walkabout head and I wanted a small set of 12” cabs but couldn’t find what I wanted. So I built myself a pair including an airhead for the Walkabout so I could have a “combo amp” which I sold off the stage about a month later. That kept happening so my wife suggested I sell a cabinet on eBay, and I sold my first Dr. Bass cab, so I put another one online and people started calling. The rest is history. So in 2002, Dr. Bass was officially born. We looked around and saw that everyone was offering the same old thing.. 115, 210, 410...etc. BORING! And then they got creative and they offered the same thing but with tolex, and a budget line of the same thing...again.. with Chinese components and an ultra-lite, again the same old line of cabinets with Neodymium speakers. Sic... The same old thing different packaging. We listened to our customers (In fact our award-winning 2460 was a customer concept, and the 1260 was built for a boutique amplifier manufacturer for the NAMM show in 2004), and what they wanted was compact, lightweight, and options, and that is what made Dr. Bass the choice of bassists worldwide.

All Dr. Bass cabinets are handcrafted in the USA using only the finest components available. Speakers from companies like Eminence, Faital Pro, Beyma, JBL, and Ciare. We engineer each cabinet to optimize the performance of the speakers being used. Only cabinet grade 13 ply pine plywood is used, and we never, EVER use Rat fur...eek, yuk, grrrrr…..NEVER! At Dr. Bass, we have always been innovators. In 2003 we were the first to use a Spray-on Bedliner finish, 3-way cabinets at affordable pricing, and all cabinets were and still are available as an “airhead” so you can create your own combo amp. Custom cabinets are still a staple of Dr. Bass.

Words I try to live by:

  • The best thing about looking in the mirror and seeing your flaws, is knowing that with faith and hard work you can fix them. (unknown author)
  • Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16

If you show some faith in us, you will be glad you did.
Thank you,
